Bikes, Mopeds & Motorcycles
Bicycles
Bicycles on campus are not required to display a permit. They should observe all rules of traffic and park at bike racks, which are located outside nearly every building on campus. We recommend that bicycle riders register their bike with KU Public Safety and use a secure lock such as a U-bar lock when parking at the bike rack.
Bicycles are allowed to drive onto Jayhawk Boulevard during restricted hours, but must abide by all traffic rules and regulations. Bicycles should not be ridden on the sidewalks.
Mopeds
The cost of an annual staff Moped permit is $87, and it may be purchased either by itself or along with a regular vehicle permit. Mopeds with valid student permits may park in any of the areas designated for Moped parking. These moped parking areas are shared with students, except for lot 15, which is exclusively for staff. Faculty and staff with mopeds should be sure to read signs carefully before parking, as some areas are designated as shared Moped/Motorcycle parking but others are Moped only or Motorcycle only.
Mopeds are not allowed to park in either Allen Fieldhouse Parking Garage or Mississippi St. Parking Garage or at bicycle racks and will be ticketed for doing so.
Motorcycles
The cost of an annual staff Motorcycle (Cycle Blue) permit is $87, and it may be purchased either by itself or along with a regular vehicle permit. Motorcycles with valid staff permits may park in the areas designated for Motorcycle parking. These areas are shared with student motorcycle parking, except for the motorcycle parking near Twente hall (lot 12), behidn Watson Library (lot 10), behind Strong hall (lot 3) and by Military Science (lot 35). Faculty and staff with Motorcycles should be sure to read signs carefully before parking, as some areas are designated as shared Moped/Motorcycle parking but others are Moped only or Motorcycle only.
Motorcycles are not allowed to park in either Allen Fieldhouse Parking Garage or Mississippi St. Parking Garage or at bicycle racks and will be ticketed for doing so.
