Medical Parking Permits
A medical permit is a short-term parking permit for areas that KU faculty, staff or students are not normally eligible to park in, who have a temporary need for closer parking due to a medical condition.
A medical permits costs $10 per week in gold zones regardless of what type of parking permit you have now.
Temporary Handicap Placards
If you need special parking for more than 3 weeks, we recommend that you talk to your doctor about obtaining a temporary handicap placard from the state. There is more information about accessible parking on campus on our Accessibility page.
Procedure to Obtain Medical Parking
In order to obtain a medical parking permit, please follow these steps:
- Have your doctor send us a fax which states how many weeks you'll need to have closer parking. This can be on a prescription pad or letterhead. It should include the following information:
- Name
- KUID Number
- Come into the Parking & Transit office with a photo ID.
- Read, initial, and sign the signature form we provide.
- Pay the fee, according to the duration and level of parking you need.
Choose a Medical Permit if your condition is temporary, not lasting more than 1-3 weeks.
Choose a state-issued Handicap Placard if your condition is long-term, lasting longer than 3-4 weeks.
It might seem like more of a hassle to get the Handicap Placard, but it is cheaper, and valid everywhere (not just on campus).
