Medical Permits

A medical permit is a short-term parking permit for areas that KU faculty, staff or students are not normally eligible to park in, who have a temporary need for closer parking due to a medical condition.

A medical permits costs $22 per week in gold zones regardless of what type of parking permit you have now.

Temporary Accessible Placards

If you need special parking for more than 1-3 weeks, we recommend that you talk to your doctor about obtaining a temporary accessible placard from the state.

Procedure to Obtain Medical Parking

In order to obtain a medical parking permit, please follow these steps:

  1. Have your doctor send us a fax which states how many weeks you'll need to have closer parking. This can be on a prescription pad or letterhead. It should include the following information:
    • Name
    • KUID Number
  2. Come into the Parking & Transit office with a photo ID.
  3. Read, initial, and sign the signature form we provide.
  4. Pay the fee, according to the duration and level of parking you need.
