Permit Refunds Related to COVID-19
KU Transportation Services will issue a partial refund to students who had purchased annual or spring semester parking permits for the 2019-2020 academic year. Payroll deductions for faculty and staff will stop May 1 - June 30. Faculty or staff members who paid upfront for a 2019-2020 permit will receive a partial refund as well. All permit holders will receive an email detailing the refund process.
The COVID-19 pandemic will have significant short- and long-term financial impacts for KU departments. KU Parking is supported solely through the sale of permits, fines and other user fees and receives no state or tuition funds. KU Parking’s operating budget is being impacted by the direct cost of providing refunds and indirect costs of lost revenue from parking meters and other fees. The University and KU Parking have continued to pay employees during this crisis. To address the long-term impacts of direct costs and loss of revenue due to COVID-19, KU Parking will postpone some future parking lot reconstructions.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as Transportation Services worked with KU leadership to determine a fair and equitable refund policy. KU parking permit holders should have already received an email with more detailed information about partial refunds. Refunds should be issued by the first week of May.
