Football Game Parking
On Friday, Sept. 3, the University of Kansas will host a home football game at 7 p.m. This will be the first time in nearly 20 years KU host a weekday game while classes are in session.
As a result of this rare Friday night game, access to some parking areas will be restricted and traffic will be rerouted on Friday afternoon beginning at 1pm.
Please see our Football Game Day parking page for information on where to park on campus. All lots near Memorial Stadium are restricted and require a Williams Fund game permit.
Accessible spaces are available in lots 59 (14 spaces) and 94 (26 spaces) adjacent to Memorial Stadium, and also near the game shuttle in lots 54 (3 spaces) and 72 (13 spaces). There is a parking fee, and spaces are sold on a first come, first served basis.
Memorial Drive Parking Restrictions
We will begin restricting parking on Memorial Drive – including lots 36 and 39 – beginning Friday at 1 p.m. This means employees who normally park on Memorial Drive will need to park elsewhere that afternoon. We recommend you consider parking lots 34 and 61 (east of Price Computing Center) or lots 54, 72 and the Allen Fieldhouse Parking Garage (accessible from Irving Hill Road and Naismith), where we will honor any staff permits. There are bus stops near each of these parking areas with buses running every 8-10 minutes up to Jayhawk Boulevard. (See the map below.)
Traffic Reroutes and Parking Lot Access
In addition, beginning mid-afternoon, some campus roads will become one-way through-fares to accommodate football guests coming to campus, and campus parking lots will be open to tailgaters.
Employees leaving campus in the hours before the football game may experience traffic congestion and delays. Please plan accordingly and consider changing your normal routine Friday. Specifically, you can:
- Carpool or take the bus to and from campus. See bus routes and schedules at lawrencetransit.org.
- Avoid parking near the stadium (lots 36, 39, 52, 53, 56-60, 91, 92, 94, HERE Apartments lot 98, and the Mississippi Street Parking Garage) and instead park further south on campus. Students should consider yellow lots 71, 90, 93, 125, 127 and the Allen Fieldhouse Parking Garage; staff should consider lots 34, 54, 61, 72 and the Allen Fieldhouse Parking Garage. (See map below for details.)
- Discuss with your supervisor whether it’s appropriate for you to leave campus early Friday afternoon and finish your workday remotely.
