Park & Ride Restarts Fall 2026
The Park & Ride program will restart, and there will be a cap on the number of student yellow zone parking permits sold beginning with the Fall 2026 semester. The changes are intended to improve parking availability during the busiest times of day and better align parking demand with available spaces.
Parking has become more challenging in recent years due to reduced parking supply from construction and the absence of a Park & Ride option following the pandemic. As a result, yellow parking zones have experienced increased congestion, particularly during late mornings and early afternoons.
Following a comprehensive parking study conducted by an external consultant, the Parking Commission voted in March 2026 to reimplement Park & Ride and limit yellow permit sales as part of a broader approach to improving predictability in finding parking for students, faculty, and staff.
What to Expect in Fall 2026
- Approximately 700 fewer yellow permits will be sold for the 2026–27 academic year.
- Students, faculty, and staff will have the option to purchase Park & Ride, if they want a lower-priced parking permit.
- Once yellow permits and garage yellow permits sell out, Park & Ride permits will be the only remaining option available to students.
- Park & Ride will operate at two West Campus locations: Lot 302 and Sections B & C in Lot 300 near the Lied Center. At the Lied Center, cars will have to be moved by 5:30 p.m. on dates of Lied Center performances.
- Students using Park & Ride will access campus via campus circulator buses (Route 41).
Additional Parking Updates
Additional changes include a new yellow-zone lot at 18th & Naismith (former site of Oliver Hall) and construction of a new parking lot west of Price Computer Center (near the sand volleyball and tennis courts). Further changes may occur as future construction projects move forward.
The following items are under review and not yet approved: potential color zone adjustments in nearby areas following construction of the two new parking lots, a proposed 2.7% permit price increase, and temporary permit requirements in all parking lots during the World Cup this summer to support ongoing university operations.
Parking Forum
Transportation Services will host an open Parking Forum on Tuesday, May 5 at 2 p.m. in Forum C at the Burge Union to review parking changes and gather feedback. The forum will include a presentation on upcoming adjustments, followed by questions and comments. For those unable to attend the forum, you can also provide us feedback through an online survey.
