Spring 2025 Parking Forum & Proposed Changes
When: 10 a.m., Thursday, May 8
Where: Pine Room, Kansas Union OR Zoom
The Parking Commission is sponsoring an open forum to receive feedback on parking issues, and review changes for the 2025–26 academic year with the KU campus. It will be held in the Pine Room at the Kansas Union.
The first 30 minutes of the forum will be a presentation about the parking study that is currently being completed. Consultants will be sharing their process, findings, and recommendations, followed by an opportunity for you to ask questions.
Following this, Transportation Services staff will give a short presentation about proposed changes for next year, and hear from attendees to give feedback and ask questions. The items listed below are under consideration by the Parking Commission and have not been approved yet.
Individuals may speak at the meeting or send comments in written form to Margretta de Vries, Parking Commission secretary, mdevries@ku.edu. You can also provide feedback to us through the online survey. General issues included in these comments will be summarized and shared with the Parking Commission.
If you wish to attend by zoom, please use the link below to register for the meeting.

Other Proposed Changes
Add lots 90, 109, and 110 to the list of parking lots where the Allen Fieldhouse and Central DIstrict Garage permits are NOT valid.
People who need temporary parking are using daily and hourly parking options. Temporary permits valid for only a few hours or a few weeks are no longer necessary.
For staff, this would be a permit valid in one parking garage but not in any surface lots, at a discounted rate. This would benefit staff who don't ever need to move around campus with their cars.
For staff who move around a lot, this would be a permit valid in all three parking garages, but not in surface lots. This would be a premium permit that costs more, but would give staff who need to move around a lot greater flexibility.
Increase hourly toll 50 cents per hour, from $1.75 first hour / $1.50 each additional hour, to $2.25 first hour / $2 each additional hour. The increased revenue will go toward increased costs of parking operations.
If the hourly toll rate changes, increase the Garage Toll Not Paid (14.8c) ticket from $16 to $20, based on the “value” of parking all day, which will go up. This ticket is based on value of 10 hours of parking at $2/hour.
Increase ticket for more than one vehicle parked on campus at same time from $25 to $50. This effectively moves the ticket from Group 1 to Group 2, and no longer eligible for cancellation through first-time ticket forgiveness quiz.
Increase non-designated parking from $50 (Group 2) to $75 or $100 (Group 3 or 4). We have repeat offenders who are not deterred from creating their own parking spaces along curbs, on sidewalks or grass, or other areas that are not a marked parking space.
To discourage repeat offenses, increase escalations from $10 to $25 per ticket in Group 3 and 4 violations and from $10 to $50 per ticket
in Group 5 violations.
Consider issuing tickets by email only to vehicles that are identified in our software.
